How This Whole Thing Started

Back in early 2025, I got a message from my cousin Sara around 1 AM. She was in her first year at university and had just discovered the Rice Purity Test through her roommate. Her exact words were something like: "This test is everywhere online but every site hosting it looks broken or sketchy. Can't you build something better? You're literally a developer."

I laughed it off at first. I build websites for a living, mostly small business sites and the occasional side project, so I figured this was just her being dramatic at 1 AM. But out of curiosity, I actually searched for the test myself. She wasn't exaggerating. Half the sites I found were slow, cluttered with pop-up ads that covered the questions, and a few even asked for an email before showing the score, which felt completely unnecessary for something this casual.

So I did what I usually do when something bothers me enough, I opened my laptop that same night and started sketching out a cleaner version. No signup walls, no random data collection, just the test itself, loading fast and working properly on a phone screen without zooming in every five seconds.

From a Side Project to Something People Actually Use

What started as a weekend build turned into something bigger than I expected. Sara became my unofficial advisor on the student side of things, she'd tell me what freshmen actually cared about, how the test gets used during orientation week, why people share their scores in group chats, and what made existing versions frustrating to use.

I handled the technical side, keeping the site light, mobile-friendly, and free of the clutter that made other versions annoying. Between her input from actual campus life and my focus on building something clean, the site slowly grew from a handful of visitors to a steady stream of people finding it through search results.

We didn't set out to build a big platform. We just wanted a version of the test that didn't feel like it was fighting you with ads every time you scrolled.

What We Actually Care About

Running this site isn't just about hosting a quiz and calling it a day. Every visitor here is a real person, sometimes it's a nervous freshman trying to break the ice during their first week away from home, sometimes it's a group of friends comparing results over pizza, and sometimes it's someone just quietly curious about their own number.

A few things matter to us more than anything else on this site:

• Keeping the test as it actually is. We didn't rewrite or shorten the original 100-question format to make it "punchier" or more clickable. What you're taking here is the real thing, not some edited version designed to farm engagement.
• Never asking for your information. No email, no name, no login. Your score belongs to you and nobody else. We don't store your answers, and we're not interested in collecting data just for the sake of it.
• Treating our visitors like adults. Most people who land on this site are teens or college students, and we're not here to judge, lecture, or attach labels to anyone's number. A high score or a low score is just a reflection of where someone is in life right now, nothing more.

The People Behind This Site

We're not a big company. This site is run by two people, myself handling the design, coding, and day-to-day upkeep, and Sara giving honest feedback from the student side so the site actually reflects how people use it in real life. We're not officially connected to any university, we just wanted to build something worth using and trusting.

It's a small setup, but we take it seriously. Every update we push, whether it's fixing a loading bug or tweaking how the score displays, is done with actual users in mind, not just to chase traffic numbers.

One Last Thing Before You Go

Whatever number you land on after taking the test, it doesn't say anything about who you are as a person. This has always been meant as a bit of self-reflection, not a report card. Your score is just a snapshot of where you are right now, not a permanent label.
